Bedwetting Alarm Guide

One of the initial ways adults can train themselves to awaken before wetting the bed is with a relatively inexpensive and unobtrusive bed wetting alarm.  All of the major bedwetting alarms sold today are battery-powered and all work on the same principal: an alarm sounds or is activated at the first presence of moisture or liquid.

There are several different makes and models of alarms, but they accomplish the same objective: they wake you up with some sort of alarm as you are just beginning to have a bed wetting incident.  There are many companies that make enuresis alarms for children and adults but the most well-known brands are Malem bedwetting alarms, Wet Stop bedwetting alarms, Drynite bedwetting alarms and DRI bedwetting alarms and you generally get what you pay for.

Bedwetting alarms are a good first step to treat your nocturnal enuresis problems in the privacy of your own home at a relatively small cost.

Here are some of the options and variations in bedwetting alarms:

Bedwetting Alarm Method: You can have a bedwetting alarm which emits a beeping or buzzing sound to wake you up if you’re a heavy sleeper or you can use one which vibrates if you don’t wish to wake up anyone else in the room or house.  More advanced night time eneuresis alarms offer volume controls, different buzzer and beeper modes, both vibration and sound modes and even flashing lights.  Some bedwetting alarms even allow you to record your own sound, voice or music to be played back as an alarm.  Adults who are heavier sleepers but still have to worry about waking up others might want to get a bedwetting alarm that has several alarm options so that different modes can be sampled and tested.

Wearable Bedwetting Alarms: There are two general placement areas for alarms.  Some bedwetting alarms are placed on the bed itself and will detect wetness only after it reaches the pad on the bed, while most other alarms attach to your clothing or sleepwear in some way with a moisture sensor placed inside or outside your clothing.  The majority of bedwetting alarms sold these days are designed to be worn during sleep.  Wearable bed wetting alarms come with a variety of different attachment methods, including safety pins, magnetic clips and even wrist straps.

Bed Pad Bedwetting Alarms: Some adults don’t like wearing an alarm to bed or are uncomfortable with a cord draped across his or her body at night.  Bed sensors are better for adults who are uncomfortable wearing an alarm to bed, but still want to be awoken when they begin to have a bed wetting episode.  Bed sensors can be placed in an old pillow case and kept above the bed sheets for added comfort.

Bedwetting Sensor Type: Depending upon what type of bed wetting alarm you purchase you may have the option to choose a specific size and shape of your moisture sensor.  Some sensors are made specifically for men while others are made specifically for women.  Some sensors are actually quite small and can be used by children while other sensors are larger and intended more for adult use.  A few brands of bedwetting alarms actually have removable sensors which can be replaced at a cost from time to time.

Wireless Bedwetting Alarms: Some adults do not like to be startled from sleep, but still need to be woken up before a bed wetting incident.  A wireless bedwetting alarm could be employed for a more gentle wake up.  No parts on the adults will vibrate or make noise, but a wireless receiver placed in a another part of the room will sound an alarm at the first instance of wetness.  This is also a good option if you are taking care of an older adults who tends to wet his or her bed but is not able or willing to wake up without assistance.  The receiver could be placed in a caregiver’s room or other location.

Bedwetting Alarm Size: The size of the actual alarm unit is important for battery power. Smaller alarms have smaller batteries which may not last very long. Larger bedwetting alarms, like most of those made by the Malem company purposely use AAA batteries that are easier to obtain and generally cheaper than the smaller tablet/watch batteries that some small bedwetting alarms have.

Buying a bed wetting alarm is a good first step to trying to get a handle on your bed wetting issues without resorting to any sort of medication or more drastic measures.  Bedwetting alarms often work well when combined with natural adult bed wetting remedies or even more traditional prescription medicines for bed wetting.

If you’re embarrassed or unsure about buying a bedwetting alarm you might want to buy your bedwetting alarm online from a store like Amazon.com so that you can bundle it with other items for privacy and possibly get free shipping as well.  Generally online stores have bedwetting alarms, as well as a number of other items, priced lower than their retail competitors.
